About This Fishery

A carp-specialist complex of three natural waters on the site of a former open-cast coal mine near Wakefield, operated by Wintersett Fisheries Ltd. The 105-acre Wintersett Reservoir holds carp to 35lb and operates on exclusive Silver membership; the 28-acre Cold Hiendley and the intimate 3-acre Botany Bay woodland pool are available on pre-booked day tickets via the Catch app.

Fishery Rules
Tackle
  • A reliable lead release system must be used. All beads and tail rubbers must eject under minimal pressure.
  • Braided mainline permitted on spod, marker and pike rods only.
  • Carp equipment only. No general coarse fishing tackle permitted.
  • Large well-padded unhooking mat, carp care kit and 42-inch landing net are compulsory.
  • Micro barbed hooks only. No bent hooks.
  • No bait boats permitted.
  • Rod limits: 4 rods on Wintersett, 3 rods on Cold Hiendley, 3 rods on Botany Bay.
Bait
  • All plastic baits are banned for the long-term welfare of carp.
  • Particles and nuts permitted but must be properly soaked and cooked.
Conduct
  • All litter including tea bags and cigarette ends must be removed from swim when leaving.
  • Dogs permitted on site but must be kept under control and cleaned up after.
  • Retain fish for the shortest time possible. No sacks. Do not retain fish near weedbeds at night during summer.
Access
  • Inflatable boats permitted on Wintersett Reservoir only. Own public liability insurance required.
  • No anglers under 16 unless accompanied by an adult.
Safety
  • No fires. BBQs permitted if kept off the ground.
  • Speed limit 5 mph throughout the complex.
