About This Fishery

Around 11 miles of the Grand Union Canal between Stoke Hammond and Pitstone, controlled by Luton Angling Club and widely regarded as some of the best canal fishing in the country. Holds good stocks of roach, bream, carp, perch and gudgeon, with carp present across many sections and perch to over 3lb.

Approx 11 miles of canal, Stoke Hammond to Pitstone, passing through Leighton Buzzard. Average depth about 1.25m in the boat channel, shallower on marginal shelves. Divided into numbered sections (Sections 1–15+); some sections are day ticket, some members-only, some with legering restrictions. Boat traffic is heavier during summer months.

  • Day tickets are available on the bank from Luton AC authorised bailiffs carrying photo ID.
  • Some sections of the canal are for club members only — check the section map on the Luton AC website before fishing.
  • Some sections have a legering ban — check section-specific rules before fishing.
  • Night fishing is not permitted for day ticket anglers. Night fishing is defined as from 1 hour after sunset to 1 hour before sunrise (arrival and departure times).
  • Maximum 3 rods. A third rod permit from Luton AC is required to use a third rod.
  • A valid EA Rod Licence must be in your possession when fishing. Waters are regularly patrolled by club and EA bailiffs.
  • Fish only from the towpath or the offside bank where legitimately accessible to the public. Do not trespass on farmland or private property.
  • All fish must be returned — no removal of fish from the water.
  • Check the Luton AC events calendar before fishing to confirm your chosen section is not booked for a match.
