About This Fishery

A long-established, family-run, two-lake carp fishery in the picturesque Cheshire countryside near Betley, 3.5 miles from J16 of the M6. Founded in 1984 by the Barratt family, Brookside Lakes has a fine reputation for quality carp angling in a peaceful setting, with the Specimen Lake offering roomy swims overlooking the Welsh hills.

Top pool. Pleasure fishing only — no matches. Mix of hard-standing and grass swims. No pole fishing. No children under 16. Overlooks Cheshire and Staffordshire countryside. Keep it simple: pellets, sweetcorn, maggots, bread.

Bottom pool. Open for pleasure during week and weekends; may be used or part-used for competitions at weekends. Small central island planted with trees. Poles and rods permitted. Well behaved children welcome.

Fishery Rules
  • Barbless hooks only (not de-barbed). Maximum hook size 8.
  • No keepnets. Pan micro mesh landing nets only.
  • Every angler must have a landing net and unhooking mat. Those without must hire one from the tackle shop or leave the water.
  • All nets and mats must be dipped in the disinfectant wash before going to the poolside.
  • No braided line. No capped feeders over 2 inches long.
  • One rod only at all times.
  • Brookside carp pellets only. No groundbait. No dry peanuts, tick beans, hemp, or boilies. No tinned cat or dog food.
  • No alcohol on site.
  • No litter of any kind to be left at the waterside — all litter must be taken away. Disregarding this will result in an immediate ban.
  • No rods to be left unattended.
  • No children under 16 on the Specimen Lake (top pool). No pole fishing on the Specimen Lake.
  • Book in at the cabin before going to the pool. If no one is there, ring the bell at the house.
