About This Fishery

A well-established campsite and coarse fishery set in 15 acres of beautiful Wiltshire countryside near Calne, close to the North Wessex Downs and National Trust sites at Cherhill and Avebury. The fishery, which dates from 1983, comprises two spring-fed chalk-water lakes renowned for excellent fish condition and clear water, alongside a nature reserve lake for wildfowl.

Specimen carp lake. Chalky spring-fed water. Stocked with mirror carp from Tony Campbell's Carp4Restocking strain (150lb+ added as part of recent restocking programme). Full carp care equipment required: minimum 10lb mainline, wetted unhooking mat, landing net minimum 80cm at widest point. No keep nets. Recent improvements include sample netting, snag removal, Siltex water treatment and CCTV monitoring.

Fishery Rules
Tackle
  • Barbless hooks only. No hooks larger than size 4.
  • Heron Lake (specimen carp): minimum 10lb mainline, wetted carp unhooking mat and landing net of at least 80cm required. No keep nets on Heron Lake.
  • Ledger rigs must be free running, not fixed.
  • No braided mainline. No mainlines under 5lb breaking strain.
  • Two rod limit on all tickets.
Bait
  • No groundbait. No nuts. Feed sparingly and take leftover bait home - do not dump bait in the lakes.
Conduct
  • No bivvies or kit to be left unattended.
  • Unhooking mats and towels used to handle fish must be wetted before use. Do not hold fish (especially carp) more than 2ft above the ground.
Access
  • A valid Environment Agency rod licence is required.
  • No fishing from the islands or from within the lake using waders.
Safety
  • Children under 17 must be accompanied by an adult.
